Meet the Storytellers

‘Meet The Storytellers’ is a series of video conversations with founders, marketers and storytellers, hosted by Ian.

The series focuses on the guest’s professional relationship with storytelling. We explore how sharing stories at work can build relationships; how sharing a personal story is a fast-track to get to know our colleagues; and the power of storytelling to make abstract and complex topics gettable.

We hear from Bobette Buster about her experiences in Hollywood; and from Nancy Duarte about building a Silicon Valley business around storytelling. In the latest episode, Ian talks to Sally Croft, Head of Marketing & Corporate Relations at Ericsson Europe & Latin America.

“I think it’s the most important part of any business. Too many brand stories haven’t been thought through and aren’t authentic. They don't speak from the soul about why they started their idea.” Hugh Thomas, co-founder of Ugly Drinks

“We might have lots of people in companies who really know the product… but how many can put those words into a story that can resonate with the customer?” Sally Croft VP Marketing & Communications, Ericsson Europe & Latin America

“You pop in to a meeting and everyone is telling a story – of what happened that day or the week before. It makes you bond, it makes you strong.” Nancy Duarte, CEO, Duarte Inc

“The only way stories have any power is if we share them with each other.” Bobette Buster, storyteller, author, screenwriter and producer

“The more precise the details, the more you place people into the scene. The more precisely you do that, the more you can open their heart so that they can hear the truth that you're trying to convey.” Jerry Colonna, CEO, coach and author

"The more that you share your stories, I guarantee, more people will do it back. You’ll start a movement. You start talking in stories, you start sharing experiences from your life - you will hear it back.” Sally Croft, Head of Marketing & Corporate Relations at Ericsson Europe & Latin America

“It’s not just happy news and it’s not just ‘here’s how we prefer to be seen.' When you’re posting about a complicated issue, that’s an important part of the story.” Karen Wickre, connector, editor and communicator

“There are so many stories to tell. It’s all about having a sense of curiosity and wonder about the things that go on inside the company and the impact it’s having outside the company.” Steve Clayton, VP, Microsoft Communications Strategy

“In one hour, Ian helped me make sense of the many career contemplations I have had recently. To say them out loud, to be asked the right questions, to be challenged a little – it channeled my thoughts into a clearer action plan backed with self-belief.”
