The start of a new season

It was the annual end of August ritual: a pilgrimage to WH Smiths at the top of Southend High Street. We all likely made such a trip - to top up on stationery ready for the new school term. A new pencil case. A ruler, protractor. Pencils would be sharpened in readiness for the return to studies after the long summer break.

And whilst it’s been a few decades since I readied myself for the new school term, as the sense of a new season is with us, that feeling remains. September always marks the beginning of something new and for me - as an independent - a sense of the familiar mixed with the unknown. September is the start of a new financial year at The Ian Sanders Company. I get my metaphorical new pencil case out for the return to work. There is a new set of spreadsheets to set up, a new invoicing numbering to start. That sense of the fresh combined with expectation is exciting: what will the next 12 months will bring? Where are the opportunities; what interesting people will I meet; what projects will I get immersed in?

Today September 1st I got stuck back in with a walk & talk with Sally at Chartwell, the former home of Sir Winston Churchill: the ideal start to herald in the next 12 months. May it continue as it's begun!
