3 simple ways to start having a better day at work (whether you're in the office or at home).

Last month I ran my More Good Days at Work as a ‘lunch and learn’ session at Fremantle TV, one of the leading TV production and distribution companies. Those that attended came from different areas of the business, we had a lively and fascinating discussion about what a good day at work looks like. Here are three takeaways from around the table:

  1. Know what ritual you need to start the working day. Some ideas that were shared included starting the day with yoga or exercise, not checking emails on your commute so you can arrive with a clear head, and the importance of the first mug of tea in the office before tackling the to do list.

  2. Know what fuels your creativity. Whatever our job title might say, most of us need to apply creative thinking in our role, whether problem solving or just looking at things differently. We’re all different - so know what fuels your creativity. Some tales from around the table for getting creative sparks included the morning walk to the office and taking a shower: both worked wonders for idea generation.

  3. Don’t ignore the world outside your office window as a source of inspiration. We’ve all done it. When we get busy, we stay at our desks with our head down. What came out of this session was how the group could use the urban landscape on their doorstep to take a break, nurture their curiosity or just get energised. The streets of Soho, local parks and squares, the bookstore around the corner. There’s often so much right on our doorstep, yet it’s so easy to forget it’s there.
