The Missing Chapter!
364 Ways to Have a Good Day. That should have been the title.
Why? Because when my book was published one year ago today, there was a chapter missing. One whole day had completely vanished. I didn't spot it; neither did my editor, nor the proof reader. We only discovered the anomaly recently.
So here's the chapter that fulfils, finally, the promise of 365 Ways to Have a Good Day!
355: It’s okay to make miskates
Things go wrong sometimes.
We might accidentally spill a cup of coffee over a stranger’s white trousers (see Idea 212). We forget to put something in our diary and miss the meeting. We don’t click save on a document.
Shit happens. That’s life. We can’t edit out these bits, however much we might like to. They’re what make us human.
Let’s make peace with the fact that hiccups happen and ditch the ridiculously high expectations we might have of ourselves. Let’s acknowledge - even accept as a given - that we will screw up from time to time.
So that when the inevitable mistake happens, we won’t beat ourselves up, but instead we’ll speak to ourselves kindly and with empathy that we’re just the same as everyone else.
Did you hear the story of the author and his missing book chapter? He wrote a book of 365 chapters. But when the book was published, Number 355 wasn’t there. It had vanished. And no-one spotted it had vanished.
Mistakes happen.
