Taking the earlier train
In the scheme of things, the difference was minimal. A matter of 21 minutes.
A choice between catching the 07:53 train and the 08:14.
I was running a workshop in central London, either option would get me there in time.
The earlier train would give me time to sit down and have a coffee. The later one would mean a takeout coffee instead.
So I decided to take the 07.53.
At Fenchurch Street station, my fellow commuters hurried to their desks or tube stations for their onward journeys. I took a side street to Association Coffee.
It was 9 o’clock in the financial district. The coffee shop was pretty deserted at that time. No line and only a handful of people at the tables.
I took a seat at a communal table, flicked open a copy of the FT and enjoyed the perfect long black. I read a couple of articles and made some notes.
It was a good start to the morning. The coffee shop was bright and friendly. The FT articles I stumbled on provided ideas for my work this week. It put me in a great mindset for my workshop.
I could easily have slowed down at home that morning. Been a bit more leisurely. Done some admin before I left the house.
But leaving just those few minutes earlier made a BIG difference to my day.
Have you found small tweaks to your day make a disproportionately big difference?!
