Six reasons to do meetings on the move!

I love the magic that happens when we can step away from our laptops and desks and head out for a walking-based meeting. Having led walk & talks, walking workshops and urban safaris for over a decade now, it always strikes me just how much ground you can cover on a walk: the outputs and ideas are always strong; it’s energising for both parties; and it often feels like a treat to be taking a meeting outdoors.

Over the last 12 months, London’s Royal Parks, the streets of Soho and the vineyards of the Surrey hills have provided the backdrop for meetings with a range of business leaders and founders.

Why do meetings on the move work so well?

  1. There are no walls or boundaries on a walk. It’s liberating.

  2. Getting out of the office environment puts us in a different mindset, where we’re likely to be more relaxed and able to get more creative.

  3. It’s a good way to get to know somebody. Taking a walk can fast-track a relationship. You can cover a lot of ground in 60 minutes.

  4. It’s intimate. There’s something about the act of walking alongside someone that lends to being open.

  5. Taking a physical journey provides an excellent framework to look at a career or business journey. There’s great symbolism about any obstacles ahead or the direction you wish to take.

  6. You’re always moving forward and that helps the ideas flow. Fluid movement in the body can trigger fluid movement in the brain.
