The power of storytelling at work - Microsoft Storytelling presents a conversation with Ian Sanders

Earlier this week I was a guest speaker for Microsoft's global community of storytellers: people across the organisation who are passionate about the power of storytelling.

In this session - watch the video below - I share my lifelong passion for storytelling, shining a light on some of my favourite examples and exploring how each of us can leverage the power of stories in our work life:

  • The magnetising power of stories - with examples from Gran Cerdo and Hiut Denim

  • How stories change how we feel - with an example from Humans Of New York

  • How good stories come from being curious - with examples from the BBC World Service radio series ‘Where Are You Going?’ and the ‘Story Safari’ I designed for my BBC workshop

  • Why zooming-in-tight is a good principle, how to tell the macro through the micro.

  • The benefits of sharing our personal stories at work, building empathy and team spirit.

  • How to stay creative and curious when we are working at home during the pandemic

  • A recap: Ian’s 10 storytelling tips for 2021

Thanks to Steve Clayton, Aimee Riordan and Rod Shelton at Microsoft HQ in Redmond, WA.
